It's not that big of a deal to wear a mask.  and no...I'm totally NOT in agreement with many on this forum on "they are taking away our freedoms" or any of that crap due to the virus.  It's a virus outbreak and im sorry...but people have shown they canNOT do it themselves.

Here's the problem with that, I am an American with disabilities.

Degenerative Disc. I've lost over 2 inches in height over the past decade. With more discs ready to blow at any moment, that 5'8" I have left to me could rapidly drop by an inch or two overnight.

Let me explain why this matters. Some of the discs that have collapsed are in the thoracic region. IE where the ribs are. T1-3 in particular.

This squeezes them ribs closer together. That pressure makes it awkward and sometimes painful for me to get a full and deep breath that most of the rest of the planet takes for granted.

Reduce the amount of O2 that I can drag in, and things get very odd and dangerous for me.

Hence... ADA and HIPAA.

What do I do instead of wearing the face-hugger from Aliens? I wash my hands frequently, don't pick my nose, don't curl the facial hair like a cartoon villain, and try to eat right to boost my immune system.

I have not caught the flu in over a decade and rarely catch even the common cold.

It WON'T stay like this.  It's going to get worse.

And, not to be argumentative, your health, and your perceptions on how to maintain it, are your responsibility.  In that case, it's your responsibility to avoid those who are not wearing a mask if you feel that they pose a threat.

Exactly, did you hear that health commissioner from Texas say that everyone should wear them in their homes???
I can hear it now.

We found this guy in his bed...died in his sleep...with his mask still on...

Make sure you record any interactions.

Simply state: American with Disabilities Act.

HIPAA means they have to respect your medical privacy and to pry without a medical license in a clinical setting is against the law. Denial of service under the ADA is also against the law.

You do not have to explain shit to them.

The Karens know this. They rely on force of personality to get you to comply. It's the 'little old grandma' syndrome. But hey, control freaks are gonna control freak.

Make sure you record it so that everyone knows that it wasn't you that started the problems. This also acts as a evidence for the lawsuit their violation of the ADA can result in. Do not volunteer anything beyond simply stating Americans with Disabilities Act. Keep it calm, professional, and polite.

Pretty much what I said yesterday to the old bat yelling at me
I can wear a mask as long as it does not cover my nose.

So I put it on where entry to some business requires it.  No one seems to notice or care that my nose is exposed!
