I spoke to Looky, he seems to be doing ok, still misses lmt so much he cant talk about it.
Good, getting used to being old, harder than I thought. Still playing chess, got my meds sorted out.
Unfortunately, that wound probably won't ever heal, TD. They had a wonderful few years together. I hope he gets comfortable enough to post with us again.
How are you and yours?
Yah, I'm not too happy about getting old, struggling with it. I hear it gets better, and I'm wondering how many mid-life crises I can go through before I have peace. Maybe being dumb is the secret, I sure was happier being stupid
I hope he does too.
We are ok, in my line of work the Trump economy might upgrade it to good even lol
Keep at the chess, I imagine when the mind goes it must be hard, but then I see some happy crazy old coots now and again.

They're heavily medicated. The only way I could tolerate all this shit.

Hey, morans! Stoppin' in to say a friendly hello on this gorgeous autumn day. And there is magic in the air (or perhaps on the ground) because this morning I discovered a puffball appeared overnight. Last year I had two of them: one was almost as large as a basketball. So this is always a happy surprise when it happens. And the trees, of course, are just stunning. We are fast approaching peak color here.
I see you guys are bemoaning the aging process. Oh dear! Maybe time to take stock in what you have to be grateful for: a place to live, people who care about you, health (yes, in varying degrees ... I get that), and the wonder of this weird technology that enables you to come up here and express your thoughts. There is more, of course, and if you think about it, you'll be surprised by how much you have to be grateful for. Just take it a day at a time and look for the good in the day. If you set out to do that each day, you will find it.
I've been closely following the debacle that is the hurricane rescue efforts. The government is dreadful in this regard, but the efforts of regular people are nothing short of heroic. Of particular joy to you, Dan, should be the efforts of some WV miners. There was a big passage of road that had been wiped out, government said it couldn't be fixed, that it would take years, etc. The WV miners came down with their equipment and got it fixed in two days. The Cajun Navy, Samaritans Purse and more are doing amazing work down there too. Yet another thing to be grateful for: people who step up when the need arises. There are many good people around, it's just the stinkers that seem to grab the attention. Don't let them live in your head.
That's it for now. Stay frosty, kidz!

Despite the drought it was a colorful fall. What is a puffball?
I saw that! They made a hell of a road there, quickly!

Here's a little info about puffballs.
https://www.mssf.org/cookbook/puffballs.html
They appear really fast, and you want to harvest them before they start to turn brown.
They are really yummy! You can dry them and preserve them to use in soups and stews all winter long.
Meanwhile, here's a really good documentary, starts out with the WNC info, but gets into so much more.
Really important info here and it's 2 hours and 13 minutes long, but well worth the time investment. .

We used to have those here. I didn't know they were edible.
That video is just disheartening.

Agree about the video and I had to really think before sharing it. But it's better to know what is going on than not.
And never lose hope -- remember, some of the electric car factories that were ready to roll have now switched back to regular car production. People simply do not want these things. The resistance to electric vehicles was strong before we knew about these things. As more people learn, we can work together to change it. Of equal importance is this: never forget the power of prayer. They need heavy equipment to move mountains, but we can do it through prayer.
Happier topic:
Now that you know about puffballs, you can harvest your own. There are lots of recipes on youtube. First time I harvested one, I took a thin slice and fried it in butter. It was so good ... slightly sweet, almost like eating a pancake.
