One of my heritage 22 revolvers has officially bit the dust. It has been giving me issue for awhile now, spitting lead cylinder not rotating when hammer is cocked, etc. but this last time I took it out to do a little plinking the cylinder stop got stuck in the down position and the cylinder free wheeled. I took it apart to see what the problem was and the little screw that holds the stop and a spring in place was really lose. I tried to tighten it up but it would not tighten so I dumped it out and took a closer look at the frame itself. To my surprise, the screw had been held in place using some kind of pipe dough or other form of putty and all the threads were pulled out. I purchased this one used and I guess at some point in the past someone took it apart and fucked up the threads. So I decided to officially retire it considering it has several other problems, the timing thing being a major issue. I stripped the frame for all its screws and other little doodads to use as spare parts for my other heritage if I ever lose a screw or a spring goes bad.

It was a damn good run for 60 bucks. I see psa has the 6 shot 4.75 inch variant w/ 22 mag cylinder listed for $99 right now. I think I will go ahead and jump on it. A lot of hate gets thrown at these little pistols, but they have been fairly good to me, considering the price.

I’ve got one that I had to replace the bent firing pin. It got bent when I was trying to shoot 22mags. For some reason it either didn’t have enough strength to fire off the rims or I had some faulty CCI ammo. I never tried the 22mags again after the firing pin was replaced. It does fine with 22LR and is a fun plinker.

A while back psa had a sale for S&W 686s. I picked one up but it was basically broken out of the box. The gun froze up on the 3rd shot and it took awhile of fiddling with it to get it unstuck. So I sent it back in for warranty repairs and got it back in about a month. I put about 30 rounds through it since it got back without issue. I will probably put about 200 rounds through it total just testing it to see if it can be trusted now. According to the paper they sent back with it, they worked on the yoke, the trigger and the mainspring weight. Kind of generalized, non descriptive but so far so good. It is very accurate as well. I put a 6 shot group that couldnt have measured more than 3 inches across at the widest point at 10 yards shooting offhand from a standing position, one handed. Good enough for me. I ordered some wood grips from amazon for it, they actually have decent fit and look nice considering they were on the budget side.
