Growing Food:
I am looking at trying to grow indoor citrus. Or citrus that I can have indoors and outdoors in the summer. I bought a few lemon starts years ago and that was a waste of money. They never really grew then dropped their leaves and died. Some folks have said to start a lemon or lime tree from seeds. Has anyone had success of growing citrus trees from seeds this way? I prefer growing limes vs. lemons. I am looking to just grow citrus, I would prefer not to buy expensive indoor growing lights etc.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!

I tried last year from seed and got off to a great start, then they dropped their leaves and my friend and threw them away, when we should've just allowed them to overwinter and see if they came back in the spring.
I've tried three more from seed this year, two have survived and the third has died.
It's really important with lemon trees that they are in sandy soil, and they don't like very much water. As with other plants if the leaves start to turn a little yellow stop watering them.
I've put mine in the temporary greenhouse for now and see how they do, as they are still very young about 3-4 inches tall. Although I will probably bring them inside at the end of September with my capsicum and chilli's.
I also took some branches of the tomato plants to see if I can them to root and grow toms indoors during the wintertime.
I've kept the grape tree, blueberry bush cuttings, apple tree and elderberry cuttings inside until they are stronger, although hoping to be able to put them outside during the winter, undercover.

Thanks for the reply & video @ ELIAKIM . I just watched a video on FB and it showed that youcould sprout a tomato slice. Seemed odd but they showed the person putting a tomato slice in dirt and it sprouted. I am going to try it but doubt I will get anything. Most tomatoes from the store are not from heirloom seeds. And I have found that anything from an heirloom seed seems to be hardier.

Sun is shinning today in England, so a lovely day for gardening.
I woke up and have been a bit giddy today, so staying home and pottering.
Later

Great weekend for gardening in the UK today, lovely sunshine.
Yesterday, I turned the compost over, and removed the remaining roots of celery that was put in in 2017. Put those roots and what was left into the compost bin too with some more leaves from 2018.
Used the very large celery container for brussels sprouts that are growing, giving three of them a lot more room to grow, so we will see how they do, and if they will do better in the trough, than in the other round containers.
Put the lemon trees outside let them get more fresh air for a few days. As they have been in the temporary greenhouse.
Have moved the raspberry bush, blueberry bush and other plants around getting the garden ready for autumn.
A friend came to collect some green tomatoes for a friend of hers. And tomatoes and zucchini keep on coming.
Beans are slowing down now, although there is still flowers on the beans.
I have to repot the pak choi seedlings today.
I tried to get the pumpkin seeds going, I think they must have been too dried out to sprout.
Sunflowers are just about to burst open into lovely sunflowers.
Have a great day!
