Does anyone know a good website or video series that teaches people how to grow various plants from seed? I'm mostly interested in vegetables, but any knowledge is netter than the zero I have now.

Get some small pots or shallow tray (any garden supply will have whole variety of them) most important potting compost - videos are all over youtube, just go to the site and type in their search bar for what ever "Seed potting" - also check YT for vids on growing pineapple, carrots and other shit from the stalk end you cut off your store bought veg or fruit...

Some shit like potato and garlic you can just leave past expiry then segment or cut and plant in 3-4" of soil (compost) and get a bunch more from what you mostly already ate...

Obviously your climate and soil and water saturation matter - for me I could easily grow broccoli, cucumber, courgette (zucchini) onions, leak, potato, carrot, radish, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower, and all kinds of herbs like parsley, mint, sage, rosemary, thyme, coriander = moderate heat in spring summer and also autumn winter - they grow in most soils that are not to acid or too alkaline and don't need much care or watering - I think (not sure) most places in the US (not too swampy like florida) those things will grow in a garden too..

Main thing is pot (seed in soil) inside (or a shed/greenhouse) in a pot or tray, then when the sprouting it big enough you transplant to the garden area...

Apple and pear trees are something I have started many times ! By refrigerating the seeds in damp to wet paper towels [sealed in plastic tub] until they sprout ! Then pot with a small covering of loose soil ! Put under a grow light and keep well watered ! I have planted may trees from this but it may be 4 years before you get fruit !! It is a numbers game 20 sprouts may give you 15 trees in pots then 15 small trees may turn into 10 big ones ! Good luck !

When I was growing from seed I would put them in before the end of January and keep growing them in doors until after the last frost prior to planting the plants in containers outside.  It also enabled me to pick out the best performing plants and get rid of any weaklings. One year I had 50 tomato plants and had to give a load away cos I had too many. 

Food growing is a great adventure for beginners, new discoveries, what grows best in what climate. It is very rewarding, although can be costly.
