So, someone explain to me like I'm 5 years old, what's the controversy between the state of the union vs the state of the nation? I think I sorta get it, but not sure.
It's supposed to be a State of the Union, but the way things are going, it's more of a generic eh, state of the nation just like any other country.
But wouldn't it be more appropriate (not sure of that's the best term) for it to be a State of The Union? As in the old days? What did President Washington call these speeches? Sorry, blew my wad with housework today and too blown out to Google.
Long story short, for the longest time it was just a letter. Woodrow Wilson kinda kicked it up to “draw support.” In other words, film and Edward Bernays led to the clown shows we have now.
