I was sitting out on the back deck about 10:30 tonight with my old cat in my lap. There is a cedar tree (about 15 feet high) just off the deck that squirrels use to access the deck railing. Anyway, the cat kept looking over his shoulder at the tree so I began to notice it was lightly trembling. There was no wind to blow the boughs and I didn’t know if I was just imagining the movement in the dark. Then a FAT raccoon appeared. I know it saw me but it just crawled out on a limb onto the railing and climbed down to the floor and wobbled over to the cat’s feed bowl. The cat and I watched it empty the bowl and play in the water bowl for a couple of minutes. It then looked at us and I swear it gave us a big grin before turning around and heading down the steps. The cat looked at me with a WTF just happened? look.
You know you’re old when these guys know you aren’t fast enough to do anything.
Time for bed.
