Modern Cars Are Getting Worse OR "You Can't Fix Stupid"
05-09-2025, 02:41 PM
Imagine having an $800.00 per month car payment for a $49k car and two years later, your loan balance is still $48k and your new car is now worth $21k.
I doubt if anyone here would even consider buying a brand new car BUT these are words to the wise:

What's REALLY funny is buying a $69k Dodge and then seeing the same model discounted to $36k.
My mind, a field of battles, struggles for peace in a tight place.

I've never bought a new car. The youngest I ever bought was 9 months old.
The issue we have in the UK is that they brought all the new technology into cars and didn't train up all the technicians required to maintain it.
One of our large Vauxhall dealerships had to close in my location because they couldn't get the technicians for the technology. So if I would like to take my car to the dealership I'd have to drive at least 20 miles.
Halfords are training up 2,000 in the UK, but even that's not going to be enough.
Some people embraced big pharma to change nature whereas I listened to Jesus and embraced nature to improve the change. The heavenly Father said, "This is my daughter in whom I am well pleased". 18.1.2020.

The shortage of mechanics, now technicians, is due to the costly investments in hand tools, testing tools and the cabinets to keep them locked.
Today's journeymen techs claim over the years they spent more than $30k for tools that aid them to earn maybe $40-$60 per hour. It's grueling, thankless work and a health hazard.
Dealerships will not bear the expense of them attending "factory training" classes. Thus, they are inept, clueless.
Not an attractive vocation for today's young men. Consequently, today's cars are design for maximum profit and no longevity. Disposable.

And even with all the training, skills & super expensive custom diag tools, it still won't be enough. Once upon a time, that special bracket, manifold or body panel that was unobtainium on your classic car could just simply be machined, bodged or banged together with enough skill & determination. But now, every car works through a myriad of custom computer modules that cannot be remade. Once the initial production run is over, your only hope is dumpster diving at the junkyard. Perfectly good, functional & relatively new cars have to be scrapped every day because custom circuit boards or chips required for their operation have no replacements.

Precisely! Even if you were to find a "electronic module" used, nowadays they are all locked into the cars CAN/BUS systems by VIN and other info.
There are some that can clone these modules but it's expensive and not very effective.
Just dismantle the car and sell it for body and interior parts.
