How to Live Like A Medieval Peasant or a Survivor of TEOTWAWKI
If TEOTWAWKI happened next week, how would you manage? What skills do you have, what stories told to you by grand parents of the Great Depression will become your new way of life?

Diseases common to peasants

Pellagra

Pellagra is most common among poor and food-limited populations. The disease is more common in parts of the world (such as certain parts of Africa) where people have a lot of untreated corn in their diet. Corn is a poor source of tryptophan, and niacin in corn is tightly bound to other components of the grain.

"Spring sickness," historically, was a common term for pellagra, a disease caused by niacin deficiency. Pellagra is characterized by the "4 D's": dermatitis, diarrhea, dementia, and potentially death. The disease, which was once prevalent in the Southern United States (post Civil War and the Great Depression) , typically manifested in the spring and summer months after a winter of depending on stored corn and wild rabbits.

Scurvy

Scurvy is a disease caused by a severe lack of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in the diet. It's a deficiency disease that was historically common among sailors who spent long periods at sea without access to fresh fruits and vegetables, but is now rare in developed countries. Symptoms include fatigue, weakness, and skin problems like bleeding gums and bruises.

Great thread

Finally got a Ferro Rod, was inspired by a female guest on Canadian Prepper who makes a kind of necklace of hers to wear as a woman round the neck. She crafts them at her site.

Some are iron, some magnesium.

How to use, lots of different tutorials.

For remote areas: forming a quick human SOS on the ground if made captives and you hear a search plane or spot a surveillance drone overhead. Then quickly break apart

Which fire starter is best? The one you have, the one you can afford.
