I have never understood people's infactuation with milk, bread & eggs at the first mention of a flurry. Not even one gallon of milk left on a shelf in the Carolinas. I have always wondered what they do with it, dunk the bread in a glass of milk? Anon

Good question. I lived in Raleigh for a couple years and being a Canadian I was always amused at how people would panic buy milk and bread at the faintest suggestion of snow.
Born and bred a proud redneck. I will not conform or give in, ever.

I made bread pudding this morning with " milk, bread & eggs" and added a diced nectarine. You can also make french toast. Yep

There are some non-profits that buy food for places like homeless shelters...they have to show proof of their tax free exempt status at the register. There is also a local asian restaurant that buys large amounts of produce at aldi.

Last time I ate bread pudding it was made by someone with norovirus, cdif or ecoli. More than a year later & I still can't smell cinnamon without gagging. Just reading my your comment made my stomach twist slightly.

Nope. I do my grocery shopping on Tuesdays. I don't eat bread, see aforementioned post about bread pudding. Even before that, I've been off bread since 2020. As for milk, I drink it, sometimes cow milk sometimes almond milk, about a gallon a week total. I've just always found it funny how people here in my homeland react to wintry weather.

Raleigh NC, 02/13/2014, 3 inches of snow. No ai, no editing, no bullshit.
*Edit: for transparency, they did get freezing rain before the snow, but still.

Most of the so-called "bread" that is in stores doesn't have much grain in it...mostly made of wheat that has most or all of the wheat germ and bran removed, then bleached and bromine added (a carcinogen)...and it's full of cellulose which humans can't digest...it's cheap.

"The cellulose added to processed foods usually comes from wood pulp (saw dust) or cotton lint."

Wheat flour on the shelf at the grocery store has most of the wheat germ and bran removed and has been sitting there for who knows how long. Any wheat germ still left in that flour starts to go rancid 48 hours after the wheat has been ground...also carcinogenic.

Have you ever tried grinding your own wheat berries and making your own bread? It's nothing like the "bread" in stores.
