seedbox

Anyone here ever use a seedbox?

I decided to try one out for a few months and see what all the hubbub is about. I know people use them for a variety of reasons including torrenting linux distros , media servers & data back up so they don't have to store all of their files locally, irc servers, vps, etc..

It seemed overwhelming at first, but it isn't really all that difficult after a few hours of messing around in the control panel. The one I went with gives 3tb of storage with 8tb of upload bandwidth each month on a 50gbps shared connection but honestly I probably should have started with less. I moved some files over to the server using filezilla and I saw transfer speeds upwards of a gigabit so pretty good. I still don't really know why I decided to get it tbh, but it is interesting to say the least. I thought about maybe backing up some of my favorite films and tv shows from dvd/bluray and setting up a plex server for streaming if it doesn't prove to be to difficult.

Basically a seed box is used for downloading torrents & streaming.

I’m so dumb. I thought this might be a post for the gardening threads. I’ve saved seeds this year from all my flowering plants and thought maybe someone had come up with a magical germination device. Never mind.

I guess I should have picked a better title for the thread and explained what I was talking about a bit more.


Eitherway, I chose to cancel the seedbox while I was still in the refund window because it just wasn't really for me. I don't seed files for days at the time to keep share ratio's up because I am not a member of any kind of private tracker that requires one to constantly upload. It also wouldn't have been very good as a plex server because it only had 3tb of storage, which isn't horrible, but not enough to backup a complete collection.
