When you live in a city, there's heat coming off of buildings, and cars. When you get away from the city, it gets colder. On foggy days, cars traveling up and down the highway are clearer than other places. It burns off the fog. Some have speculated that this may have some effect on tornadoes, where they are bigger out in open land but cut out over large populations. Not sure that this is entirely true. But tornadoes seem to track over similar areas repeatedly. So if there is a history of tornadoes hitting an area, it is more likely that they will return.
