@ FlyoverCountry gets credit for finding these videos.
If you're offended by salty language, turn the volume off.
This guy has a limited vocabulary but his chicken house is great.

I would enjoy farming now that I’m retired but I don’t have the land and I’m a little old to get started homesteading. One of my buddies has a daughter with a farm. They keep us provided with eggs of every color. Free range is so much better than grocery store eggs.

Feel free to share your successes and failures in preparing for the SHTF with food on the hoof, or foot as it were. This is great @ SlowLoris.
I'll share my chicken shit here. I have 8 layers just about old enough to start producing and 6 broilers. Make that 3. We ate one and gave another to a needy friend.
My dog loves to herd them and keep them from wandering too far from the coop.
I'll get pix.
So I built a coop with discarded scaffolding as a frame, used as much "stuff layin' around" as i could.
So why does a chicken coop have only two doors? If it had four, it would be a chicken sedan.
Oh, and do not attempt to pluck a live chicken, wait 'till it's dead. They get really pissed off.
My mind, a field of battles, struggles for peace in a tight place.

I am currently managing chickens, turkeys, ducks, mini pigs and Jersey cows.
In the past I have had goats and sheep. I had to give up those because of the coyotes and bobcats. I didn't have a barn to lock them up at night. How's the relationship between your toms and the chickens? Do you keep them separate? Do you have a Rooster for the hens?
Sorry if I'm overly curious. After being away from it all those decades it's rushing back into and I like it.
I would like to have 18-24 Bantam chicks. Love their eggs even though they are small. We grew up calling them Banny Chickens.
EDIT: They eat the ticks as a bonus.

As a kid we raised rabbits and chickens. Lately I have been getting the urge to start raising one or the other again. I remember pretty much nothing from back then except that both were fairly easy to keep. For the chickens I had 3 main goals. Dual purpose (eggs & meat), cold tolerant and something that looked good. Ain't nobody got time for ugly chickens, LOL. Went with Welsummers...
Not my pics

Recently I followed the instructions from this video and blog to build a brooder cage for the newly hatched turkeys.
I have 26 turkey eggs in the incubator so I will definitely need room for the little guys to live in as they grow big enough to join the flock.
This is a much better option than a plastic tote or a bathtub for baby poultry. (yes I have put baby chicks in the bathtub)

This is mine before adding the wire. It was so easy to build what with the materials list and very detailed instructions.
