The word "fringe" often has a negative connotation. We speak of the "lunatic fringe" or of "fringe groups" - referring to people who are far from the norm, and usually not to be taken seriously. We tend to distrust what is unusual
Despite this mistrust, I believe that it is at the "fringe" where our knowledge has the greatest potential for growing. We can be content with rehashing what is already safely known, or we can take a chance, risk being wrong, and step beyond the fringe.
This site discusses ideas that are considered questionable, unproven, tentative, or otherwise not within the current scientific canon. It includes topics that are considered "fringe science" - that is, science that is not accepted by mainstream scientists. It also includes topics such as the paranormal, UFO's, and other controversial subjects.
